Iron Deficiency, Megaloblastic, Aplastic & Hemolytic Anemia, and Sickle Cell Testing
Description
This virtual lab explores the major red cell disorders through their laboratory findings. Students study iron deficiency, megaloblastic, aplastic and hemolytic anemias using CBC results, blood films and specific tests. They then perform sickle cell testing by the sickling test, solubility test, hemoglobin electrophoresis and HPLC. Interactive simulations and quizzes accompany each section, followed by a final exam and a certificate of completion.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this lab, students will be able to recognize the laboratory features of iron deficiency, megaloblastic, aplastic and hemolytic anemias and distinguish between them. They will also be able to perform and interpret sickle cell tests by different methods and explain their principles and limitations.
