Sterilization lab
Description
This scenario-based lab casts learners as a laboratory manager responsible for keeping a facility sterile. Working through modules on methods, indicators, scenarios, and a notebook, learners must choose the correct sterility level for each item — sterilization, disinfection, antisepsis, or sanitation — before completing a final assessment, with real consequences for wrong choices like contaminated cultures or failed vaccine QC.
Learning Outcomes
Learners will understand the principles of sterilization and microbial control; distinguish sterilization from disinfection, antisepsis, and sanitation; identify physical and chemical sterilization methods and their mechanisms; select the appropriate sterilization method for a given material; verify sterility using chemical and biological indicators; and troubleshoot failed cycles to design effective sterilization protocols.
