Qualitative determination of carbohydrates Lab
Description
This virtual biochemistry lab lets learners run five classical qualitative tests — Molisch's, Fehling's, Benedict's, Tollens', and Iodine — on a rack of carbohydrate samples (glucose, fructose, galactose, maltose, lactose, sucrose, and starch) to distinguish monosaccharides, reducing and non-reducing disaccharides, and polysaccharides based on their distinct color-change reactions.
Learning Outcomes
Learners will identify carbohydrates as monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharides; select the appropriate test to distinguish reducing from non-reducing sugars; and predict and interpret color-change results (e.g., brick-red precipitates, violet rings, or blue-black complexes) for each sample across the five classical carbohydrate tests.
